Mandina’s

For my first documented lazy keto trip to dine out, we easily chose Mandina’s located in Mid-City. I say “easily” because we’ve heard about it forever, yet had never tried it for ourselves. Not to mention the fact that they serve Italian-style comfort food. Yep, we’re here for it!

After careful consideration, I played it ultra-safe and ordered the “Two Center Cut Grilled Pork Chops with Fries and String Beans,” subbing out the fries of course. I chose the broccoli instead. Our jaws dropped when we saw the portions! I ate half of my plate and took the rest home for a delicious lunch the next day.

I estimate the green beans were 4.5 grams of net carbs, the broccoli 4 grams of net carbs, and 0 grams for the pork chops. So this meal rang in around 8.5 grams of net carbs, meaning I only ate 4.25 grams of net carbs for half of the meal. Now that’s low! I wasn’t kidding when I said I played it safe this time around.

The husband ordered a wedge salad as an appetizer (I ate some of it too) and Chicken Parmesan over Spaghetti to split with our four year old daughter. I won’t torture anyone with pasta pics, but check out this wedge salad! I estimate this giant had to be around 7 grams of net carbs, with the heavy majority of the carbs coming from the tomatoes and dressing.

Other menu items I considered (modifications included):
– Grilled Gulf Fish Served with Boiled Potatoes and String Beans (sub broccoli for boiled potatoes)
– Tossed Greens Salad
– Grilled Chicken Salad
– Grilled Shrimp Salad
– Filet Mignon or Ribeye with Fries and String Beans (sub broccoli for fries)
-1/2 Broiled Chicken with Boiled Potatoes and String Beans (sub broccoli for boiled potatoes)
– Grilled Catfish with Boiled Potatoes and String Beans (sub broccoli for boiled potatoes)
– Grilled Shrimp with Boiled Potatoes and String Beans (sub broccoli for boiled potatoes)

Looking forward to our next trip out to eat. I survived the first trip; hoping to be a little bolder next time and choose something a little more daring! Where should we go next?!
